December Update

Dear PTSA Members,

During this season of giving I have been thinking a lot about our school theme to “Go Out of Your Way to Make Someone’s Day”. I love this idea and how it is being reinforced at Oak Canyon this year. I think this is the spirit that so many of our board members embody and I love seeing all the different ways our parent volunteers are finding to go out of their way to make a junior high student’s day. There is so much we can do during this pivotal time in our children’s lives, and I am so grateful for those who are finding ways to fit service at our school into their busy lives.

We had a wonderful day giving out treats to the students on the Honor Roll, a fabulous Freedom Week and great support at the school play. Thank you to all  the volunteers who put so much time into these programs and making the day of one of our Oak Canyon students.

Sincerely,

Amy Fox
OCJH PTSA President

Eagle of the Month
Each month just before our board meeting, we recognize six students who have been nominated by their teachers as Eagles of the Month. These students are exemplifying the true Eagle Spirit by being kind, good citizens and excellent learners. The November Eagles of the Month were: Kamryn Rice, Mason Ackley, Kelly Washburn, Gavin Ivie, McKay Snell and Avery Bigler.

Student Leadership & Teen Giving Tree

The PTSA sponsors a student leadership program open to all students. They meet each month on the second Thursday from 2:20-3:30. They are currently collecting items to help local youth who are in real need. They need NEW gifts and items for teens in crisis and foster care. Youth who are placed in foster care during the later part of the year are not on any lists to receive Christmas gifts, during a time in their lives when they are most in need.  All donations will go to our local community through the Utah Foster Care Foundation.

Some donation suggestions: I-tunes cards, board or card games, sports equipment, hoodies, trendy socks, make-up, cologne or perfume, art or craft projects and supplies, video games, school supplies, shoes, hair accessories, hair products, curling or flat irons, gloves, scarves, hats, jewelry, DVDs, room décor, posters, local sports team items, ball caps, batteries, accessories, cool T-shirts, gift cards, cash, etc.

One particularly important need is duffle bags or suitcases. Often the teens are moved from home to home and have no bags for their few belongings. Donating new or gently used travel bags would be greatly appreciated and very useful.

Students can bring donations in anytime. Donation boxes are in the office thru December 14th.
